Getting Started

I’ve never played table tennis before. Can I still join?

Absolutely! TTTA welcomes players of all skill levels, from complete beginners to experienced competitors. We offer beginner training sessions and our coaches are experienced in teaching newcomers to the sport.

What age groups do you cater to?

Fun for 4 to 104 year olds — all abilities welcome! We have specific programs for:

  • Juniors (4-17 years): Junior training sessions Monday-Saturday
  • Adults (18+): Social and competitive sessions throughout the week
  • Seniors: Social senior fixtures and training sessions

How do I get started?

  1. Visit us during one of our open hall times
  2. Come to one of our “Come & Try” sessions when one’s scheduled — check our Events page or Facebook for the next date
  3. Register for membership online through our RevSport portal, or in person at the hall — see Memberships for both options

Equipment & Facilities

Do I need to bring my own bat and balls?

We have equipment available to borrow when you’re starting out. Once you’re committed to playing regularly, we recommend purchasing your own bat. Our coaches can advise on suitable equipment for your skill level.

What should I wear?

  • Comfortable athletic clothing
  • Non-marking sports shoes (essential - black-soled shoes may mark the floor)
  • Water bottle
  • Towel

What facilities do you have?

  • 10 competition-standard tables (reconfigured to 8 for ITTF-rated tournaments)
  • Air-conditioned playing hall
  • Taraflex flooring, the same surface used at Olympic competition
  • Top-Spin Café (our canteen)
  • Shower and toilet facilities
  • Spectator seating
  • Ample parking

Membership & Costs

What membership options are available?

We offer 5 membership levels:

  1. Fun & Fan Member - Free, for spectators, volunteers & supporters
  2. Club Play – Social Senior - For casual senior social players
  3. Club Play – Townsville - For social players, juniors & those entering fixtures
  4. Club Comp Member - For competitive players — veterans, juniors & seniors
  5. Club Comp Plus Member - For junior & senior players competing at national level

How much does it cost to play?

Costs vary depending on the session:

  • Social Senior Sessions: $5-$10 per session
  • Junior Training: Buy-hours packages available
  • Senior Training: $12 per session
  • Sunday Social Tournament: $10 ($7 juniors)

Can I just come once to try it out?

Definitely — you can visit during open hall times or attend one of our Come & Try events. Contact us first so we can ensure someone is available to help you get started.


Training & Coaching

When are training sessions held?

We have sessions 7 days a week. Our main sessions include:

  • Monday: Junior fixtures 4-6pm
  • Tuesday-Friday: Junior training 4-6pm, plus senior training on Tuesday and Thursday evenings
  • Saturday: Table Tots 9-10am, Junior training 10am-1pm, Women’s training 1-2:30pm
  • Sunday: Social Tournament, most weeks

Do you offer private coaching?

I have a disability. Can I still participate?

Absolutely! We have a Swish program for vision-impaired players on Saturday afternoons (1:30-3pm). For other accessibility needs, please contact us to discuss how we can accommodate you.


Competitions & Events

Do you run competitions?

We run several kinds:

  • Regular club fixtures (social and competitive)
  • Local tournaments throughout the year
  • Regional competitions
  • National-level events

How do I enter a tournament?

Most tournaments require registration through our RevSport portal. Entry forms are also available at the hall.

Can beginners enter tournaments?

Beginners are welcome in tournaments too — we run events for all skill levels, and some are non-rated and perfect for gaining tournament experience. Our coaches can advise which events are suitable for your level.


Hall Hire & Other

Can I hire the hall for events?

We offer flexible hall hire options for:

  • Birthday parties
  • Corporate team building
  • School groups
  • Functions and events

Entry is via stairs opposite the Auto Centre Townsville car yard, near Officeworks and Ruswin Locksmiths.

What are your opening hours?
