About Table Tennis

What is Table Tennis?

Table tennis, also called ping pong, is a sport where two or four players strike a lightweight ball across a net-divided table using small paddles. The game takes place on a hard table divided by a net, and the sport demands athleticism, quick thinking, and strategic play.

How to Play

The Basics

Table tennis emphasizes speed and strategy. The objective is simple: hit the ball over the net so your opponent cannot return it successfully.

Scoring

  • Matches consist of odd-numbered games (best of 3, 5, 7, etc.)
  • Individual games are won by first reaching 11 points
  • Must win by at least 2 points (games continue past 11-10 until someone leads by 2)
  • Players alternate serves every 2 points

Skills & Strategy

Players who successfully spin the ball gain tactical advantages by altering its trajectory and limiting opponents’ options. The fast-paced nature demands quick reactions, rewarding players who develop strong reflexes and anticipatory skills.
